Northwest Neurological provides compassionate, expert medical support to help you and your loved ones address memory concerns with confidence and care.
As we grow older, it’s natural to experience some degree of memory decline, along with subtle changes in other cognitive functions. You might find yourself searching for misplaced car keys or struggling to recall the name of a new person. This is generally considered a normal part of the aging process.
While normal age-related forgetfulness might be frustrating, it typically doesn’t interfere with daily life or independent functioning. If your memory loss is so severe that:
- It disrupts your daily life and prevents you from maintaining your usual routine,
- You struggle to learn new things,
- You find it challenge to complete tasks that were once familiar,
- Those close to you begin to notice changes in your abilities,
Then your memory difficulties line up with what people commonly experience in the early stage of dementia.

Learn More About Memory Loss
When suspecting memory loss, a comprehensive diagnostic approach is essential to determine the cause and extent of the impairment. These tests and evaluations help providers develop an appropriate treatment plan. There is no single test to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
At your first appointment with our providers, you will be asked to explain your current symptoms, when they began, and how they affect your life. After evaluating your symptoms, medical history, and medications, your provider will discuss various options with you. This typically involves discussing the appropriate tests and evaluations to determine the cause and extent of your memory loss.
